    Flash!….Ahahhhh!

    Saturday, February 6th, 2010

My husband just posted the following in the comment section of my “Hacked Off” post.  It provides a disturbing insight into his brain.  Make sure you watch the video.  I always suspected something like this was going on inside his head while he pretended to listen to me.

“Cyber villains beware. Armed with my silicone infused weaponry, my terminal of smite and my trusty four legged steed, Bingly, I am a force to be reckoned with! ‘Flash Gordon’ by Queen is playing in the background while I say this.”

    A Silent Night

    Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

I told Chris the other night that I’m having trouble getting into the holiday spirit.  It seems like I’m so busy trying to make Christmas special for the boys that I forget to breathe, to rest, and to take in these precious and fleeting moments that we have as a family.

Now ordinarily I consider pop songs that play off of classics pretty cheesy.  And I’m not really Amy Grant’s biggest fan either (or at least I haven’t been since I was eight and had all of her albums and wore a black hat like the one she wore in her “Hats” video everywhere I went.) But for some reason every time this song comes on the radio these days, I find myself tearing up. Regardless of what you think of the music, its a good reminder that Christmas (like every day) is about celebrating and resting in the birth, life, death and resurrection of our savior.

    Coolest Neighbors Ever!

    Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Last night after dinner we drove around looking at Christmas light.  The best display we saw was in the neighborhood right next door to ours.  There is a sign on this family’s lawn telling visitors to tune into a certain radio station.  When you do, this is what you experience:

    Heaven

    Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I’ve heard this song on the radio a few times recently, and there is something about it that I find very….intriguing.  The melody is beautiful and the lyrics are haunting, but there’s something beyond that.  Weather it’s a theological  reaction or a visceral response, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    Heaven- by Brett Dennen

    Beyond the rules of religion
    The cloth of conviction
    Above all the competition
    Where fact and fiction meet

There`s no color lines or casts or classes
There is no fooling the masses
    Whatever faith you practice
    Whatever you believe

    Heaven. heaven.
    What the hell is heaven?
Is there a home for the homeless?
Is there hope for the hopeless?

    Throw away your myth misconceptions
There ain`t no walls around heaven
There are no codes you gotta know to get in
    No minutemen or border patrol

You must lose all earthly possession
    Leave behind your weapon
    You cannot buy your salvation
There is no pot of gold

    (chorus)

    Heaven ain`t got no prisons
    No government no business
    No banks or politicians
    No armies and no police

    Castles and cathedrals crumble
    Pyramids and pipelines tumble
    The failure keeps you humble
    Leads us closer to peace

    Can I Get a Witness?

    Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Just in case we needed more proof that Corbin is a grade A nutball, he has recently taken to making up songs and singing them into his toy microphone while I feed Bennett.  This is terribly entertaining to listen to but somewhat inconvenient timing since my hands are too busy shoveling pureed squash into Bennett’s mouth to grab the video camera.  So today when the lunch time concert began I called Chris at work and asked him to write down what Corbin was singing.  I promise you, and Chris is my witness, this is verbatim what he sang:

Do not be afraid of God,
    Because God is here,
    In the sky,
    In your heart,
    Everyone,
    Everyone,
    Do you remember God?
    Everyone,
    Everyone,
    Do you believe?

He then launched into a 20 minute cover medley of I Am Not Forgotten, The Itsy Bitsy Spider and Nobody is Bigger Than a Giant.

But lest you think his musical talents are limited to gospel song writing, here is a sample of his best dance move:
